You are invited to join in the special events in May that AJPP has organised to mark 60 years of Israel’s existence as a State, which Palestinians call “Al Nakba” (the catastrophe) becuase it led to the dispossession of their land and homes and the subsequent oppression and violation of their rights.
Australians for Justice and Peace in Palestine (AJPP) is proud to be sponsoring a visit to Canberra in May 2008 by Mr Ali Abunimah, the Editor of The Electronic Intifada, one of the most authoritative international “voices” on the longstanding conflict between Israel and Palestine. The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of Israel’s establishment in May 1948, known to Palestinians as Al Nakba, the catastrophe of their dispossession.
Dinner with Ali Abunimah
At 7 pm on Sunday 11 May 2008, AJPP is hosting a dinner at the Blue Elephant restaurant, 29 Lonsdale Street, Braddon, with Ali Abunimah as guest speaker. The cost of the dinner is $30 ($25 for concessions), plus drinks. Bookings may be made by calling 0406 376 878 or 0417 269 984 before 10 May 2008.
Ali Abunimah is a Palestinian-American writer and academic, based in Chicago. His visit to Canberra is a unique opportunity to hear an eloquent advocate for Middle East peace. He is widely sought after in international forums. His website http://www.electronicintifada.net has a very large international following and provides comprehensive and up-to-date opinions and analyses on a wide range of subjects relating to Israel and Palestine. His book One Country – A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli/Palestinian Impasse is well worth reading. The book will be on sale during his visit to Canberra and he will be available to sign it.
